Veterans Education and Transition Services (VETS) at the University of Arizona is pleased to announce a generous grant from the Bert W. Martin Foundation.
As part of this grant current student veterans attending the University of Arizona are eligible to apply to serve as Guardians on an Honor Flight to Washington, DC
If you are interested in going on future honor flights, please submit the applications below! The next flights will occur Fall 2018, Sep 22-24 and Oct 27-29. Please write your date preference on the top right of the Guardian Application
The Southern Arizona Honor Flight Society has a rich history involving the escorting of WWII and Korean War veterans to their respective memorials in Washington D.C.
"Guardians play a significant role to ensure that every veteran has a safe and memorable experience. From the moment the veterans arrive at the airport, until we return them to their loved ones, guardians are asked to treat these heroes as if they were family and ensure every veteran has a safe and honoring experience.” (http://honorflightsaz.org/guardians/)
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered:
1 Current student veteran attending the University of Arizona
2 Academic good standing
3 Attend an Overview Session with Honor Flight Staff
Requirements to be considered as a Guardian:
1 Complete a 1 page essay to answer, “Why you want to serve as a Guardian and what you hope to learn from this experience?"
2 Complete the "Honor Flight Guardian Application” (kept on file with Honor Flight of Southern Arizona)
3 Complete the "Honor Flight Guardian Medical & Emergency Information” (for those selected to serve as a Guardian kept on file until completion of the Honor Flight for those not selected shredded at time of selection)
4 Complete the "Honor Flight Convenant Not to Sue and Indemnity Agreement” (kept of file for seven years with Honor Flight of Southern Arizona)

Applications are currently being reviewed at the time of submission and accepted on a rolling basis.
For Guardians this is a working trip. Safety is paramount, you must maintain excellent situational awareness, be able to push a wheelchair up ramps and lift 100 pounds.
Be advised that by meeting the criteria and submitting the required documents there is NO guarantee of being selected to serve as a Guardian.
